Workshop Description:
Building immersive setting allows the reader to feel they are stepping out of their world and into the world of your story. Setting and place are a collection of details—the right details in the right amount—that will captivate readers. Whether you’ve written several novels or you are working on your first story, this class is going to give you tools to make your setting sing. Setting and place touch every aspect of your story from characters to plot. You’ll learn how to immerse the reader in the world of your story through sensory images, emotional connection, and word choices-and that’s just for starters.
We’ll also be covering YOU and your power of observation. Creating a setting that sings hinges on the details, and revealing those details relies on your observational skills. We’re going to practice this skill throughout the course.
During this class, you will:
- Gain an understanding of successful, vivid description.
- Learn the magic of precise, concrete details.
- Learn how to use description to move your story forward
- Understand how description affects atmosphere, mood, and tone.
