DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description: \nBuilding immersive setting allows the reader to feel they are stepping out of their world and into the world of your story. Setting and place are a collection of details—the right details in the right amount—that will captivate readers. Whether you’ve written several novels or you are working on your first story\, this class is going to give you tools to make your setting sing. Setting and place touch every aspect of your story from characters to plot. You’ll learn how to immerse the reader in the world of your story through sensory images\, emotional connection\, and word choices-and that’s just for starters. \n  \nWe’ll also be covering YOU and your power of observation. Creating a setting that sings hinges on the details\, and revealing those details relies on your observational skills. We’re going to practice this skill throughout the course. \nDuring this class\, you will: \n\nGain an understanding of successful\, vivid description.\nLearn the magic of precise\, concrete details.\nLearn how to use description to move your story forward\nUnderstand how description affects atmosphere\, mood\, and tone.\n\n  \nInstructor Bio: \nJacquelin Cangro has an MFA in creative writing from Georgia State University and worked at Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster. As a freelance editor and writing coach\, she’s reviewed dozens of novel and short story manuscripts\, providing writers with feedback to revise their stories. Her first book\, The Subway Chronicles: Scenes from Life in New York\, published by Penguin/Plume\, started as an online journal\, accepting essays from writers of all skill levels. Her short fiction was selected as the Saturday Evening Post’s Great American Stories 2014\, and her other works of fiction have appeared in The Macguffin\, Valparaiso Fiction Review\, The Cortland Review\, and Pangolin Papers. You can find out more about her at jacquelincangro.com.
