SUMMARY:Crafting the Romantic Couple
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description: \nCreating the Romantic Couple – Have you ever read a romance novel and thought\, “I really liked the book\, but…” Something about the characterization of the hero or heroine left you cold? Didn’t make sense? Wasn’t fleshed out enough? This course will walk you through the process of creating memorable characters\, including avoiding those “gotchas” that make readers wince. Most writers have a preference for writing the hero or the heroine. If you feel you have this tendency\, this is the course for you! If you’re not sure how to start\, or how to set up the couple for chemistry and love\, this course will help! Creating the Romantic Couple is geared toward beginning and advanced authors alike. \nInstructor Bio: \nCassandra Carr is a romance writer whose works have been named top picks/recommended by more than a dozen major book review sites. When not writing\, she designs and makes jewelry\, binge watches documentaries on Roku\, and tends her vegetable garden. \nWebsite: http://www.booksbycassandracarr.com/

SUMMARY:Give your Story Teeth - How to grab your readers from page 1
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description: \nSome stories have wonderful concepts but don’t take us on a roller coaster ride. If a suspense doesn’t grab readers and keep them on the edge of their seats\, no one will care enough to keep reading. How much backstory can we add without interrupting the action? How can we keep the action going and still get in the needed details? Which types of verbs and sentences should we delete to keep readers breathless and grabbing hanging on to every word\, reading until dawn. What do we need to add to thrill and horrify? How much does our reader need to know and \nInstructor Bio: \nMary Marvella has been a storyteller for as long as she can remember. The arrival of the book mobile was as exciting as hearing the music of the ice cream truck. As a child of the South\, she inherited the storytelling gene from her parents and her grandmamas. \nRetired from teaching classic works of the masters\, Mary plays let’s pretend with her characters. She has published 10 novels\, 1 book on editing\, and a collection of Christmas stories. \nMary tutors\, and coaches writers when she isn’t working on projects as a freelance editor.  She has always been a grammar geek who loved soaking up new knowledge and reading everything\, including labels on cereal boxes. \nGeorgia raised\, she writes stories with a Southern flair.

SUMMARY:Digging Deep - Researching Your Novel
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description: \nDigging Deep: Researching Your Novel\, will introduce you to various research methods\, as well as different options for organizing your research. \nWe will cover: \n\nThe Foundation—Examines various methods for organizing your research.\nThe Inverted Triangle—A Writing Right Academy exclusive! Narrowing the focus of your research.\nThe Written Word—Using books\, magazine and newspaper articles\, libraries\, archives and the Internet to find what you’re looking for.\nThe Media—Examines the various media that can help you research your novel.\nIn Real Life—Explains the art of interviewing experts on your subjects.\nBon Voyage—What you need to know before you take that research trip.\nAuthor’s Notes—Examines the types of author’s notes.\nAll Together Now—Pulling your research together.\n\nIncluded in the class is a workbook with resources\, worksheets\, checklists\, and more. \nInstructor Bio: \nI believe I was destined to be interested in history. One of my distant ancestors\, Thomas Aubert\, reportedly sailed up the St. Lawrence River to discover Canada some 26 years before Jacques Cartier’s 1534 voyage. Another relative was a 17thCentury “King’s Girl\,” one of a group of young unmarried girls sent to New France (now the province of  Quebec) as brides for the habitants (settlers) there. \n  \nMy passion for reading made me long to write books like the ones I enjoyed\, and I tried penning sequels to my favorite Nancy Drew mysteries. Later\, fancying myself a female version of Andrew Lloyd Weber\, I drafted a musical set in Paris during WWII. \n  \nA former journalist and lifelong Celtophile\, I enjoyed a previous career as a reporter/editor for a small chain of community newspapers before returning to my first love\, romantic fiction. My stories usually include an Irish setting\, hero or heroine\, and sometimes all three.

SUMMARY:Nifty Nine Editing Check List 2 week intensive
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description: \nI will share a checklist to help authors make the most of the editing process. We will pare the list to 9 kinds of mistakes authors can fix. I edit a lot of books with the same kinds of mistakes. Why not have a plan to help you. \nReading a manuscript three times or using an editing program isn’t enough. \nInstructor Bio: \nMary Marvella has been a storyteller for as long as she can remember. SUMMARY:Keeping the New Releases Coming
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description: \nOnce\, long ago\, back in the halcyon days of decent sized advances – or advances\, period! – when many of us snagged contracts that guaranteed we’d have a new book out every year unless we didn’t turn in a book every year\, an author could make a living – a meager one\, but still a living – with less pressure. \nUnless you were Nora Roberts or Janet Dailey who were whipping out short romances on a monthly or nearly monthly scale\, that is. But the only way most of us had more than a single book out was to have a spin-off tale with characters from one book appearing in a book of their own\, or we jumped from one category to another\, or wrote for more than one publisher. I did romantic comedy for four different publishing houses plus historical romance back in the 1990s. While the words “rapid release” were never mentioned\, since the majority of them were under my Beth Henderson name\, it was the only version of “rapid release” back then. \nRapid Release is frequently bandied about these days. Most frequently for writers who have dived into being Independent publishers. But many of us with backlists went Indie with reprints\, so we already have a foothold in two places if we’re still pursuing traditional publication as well. \nBut traditional publication doesn’t promise “rapid release”\, mostly because there are so many small companies picking up the slack the large traditional companies have left available\, and editing\, cover creation\, formatting\, as well as office overhead means each traditionally published title\, even those not offered in paper editions\, is high. Rapid Release isn’t something they can afford to do in the manner we might like. Which means\, we need to do it ourselves. \nIn this 4-week workshop we’ll talk creating new shorter series to release independently to achieve the Rapid Release benefit – which is keeping our readers primed\, reading\, and eagerly hitting those Pre-Order buttons. We’ll also talk formatting of books\, cover creation\, and everything else that goes into getting these stories ready to load to Amazon as Shorts or Quick Reads or lined up with pre-order buttons. But FIRST\, we’ll talk what to put into a rapid release system of our own. \nInstructor Bio: Beth Daniels first went Indie with her backlist\, then added a couple stories that were new but “overlooked” by “intelligent” editors. You know the type. Obviously short sighted. In any event\, she also began writing in different genre niches under new pseudonyms and knew that in the Internet era of self-promotion that to kick start things\, and prime readers for novel length tales before the traditional publisher released something\, there needed to be other\, shorter stories in the same fictional universe. The first “born” of these was the Prequel Novellas in her Raven Tales world\, followed by Covert Cog novella length cases for her Weird West Steampunk teams to solve. In 2021 she went in yet a new direction\, mixing mystery with romantic comedy and the paranormal world for a set of stories written totally for rapid release and not tied to any of her other series. While she has 37 novels to her various names\, in her Indie world there are now 12 novellas tied to two different series worlds plus 8 short stories setting up yet other series worlds. All under the flag of “rapid release”. Visit her at www.4TaleTellers.com. \n
